Special Interest
There are thousands of species of animals in living in Glacier today because of its unique terrain and habitats.
Mammals
Glacier is home to 66 different species of mammals. These animals range from a the tiny pygmy shrew, which is the weight of a dime, to a grizzly bear, elk, gray wolf, lynx, bighorn sheep, and mountain goat. The unique part of this is the completeness. Only two animals are missing. The woodland caribou and bison.

AmphibiansGlacier contains over 1,500 miles of streams, rivers, and about 700 lakes, pong, marshes and other wetland habitats. Some amphibians you will find in the park include the boreal toad, long-toad salamander, Columbia spotted frog, Pacific tree frog, and the boreal chorus frog.

BirdsMore than 260 species of birds are found in the varied habitats of Glacier National Park. That is a extremely large number for a area so far north. Variable climatic conditions created by the Continental Divide yields a patchwork of aquatic, riparian and terrestrial habitats ideally suited for birds.
